『わたおし。』こと『私の推しは悪役令嬢。』に触れ続けて数年が経過しているけど、私はレイ＝テイラーという人間について分かっていないことが多過ぎるのではないかという悩みに苛まれていた。

『わたおし。』についてもっと理解し、楽しむためにはレイについて考える機会を設けないといけないのではないかと感じた。

そこで今回は『わたおし。』に登場するレイの魅力について掘り下げていこうと思う。

レイ＝テイラーの魅力

レイは現実と理想に向き合い続け、数多くの困難に立ち向かう女性だ。

時には、予想外の困難に心をくじかれる時もあるが、自分自身と向き合い、困難を乗り越えていく。

すでに『わたおし。』を楽しんでいる方なら理解していると思うが、レイ自身は完璧超人というわけではなく、クレア達と同様に理不尽だらけの現実にもがく1人の人間なのだ。

現実と理想から逃げずに戦い続ける姿こそ、レイの最大の魅力なのだと思う。現実と理想から逃げないというのは思っている以上に難しい。その場しのぎの逃げに甘えたくなることが多々ある。

レイはクレアの運命を変えるためにいくつもの下準備を行っている。全ては来るべきその日のために。クレアを幸せにするという理想が想像以上に高く、いくつもの課題や困難がある。

あらかじめ用意されていたシナリオに則って運命を委ねる行為はレイにとって現実逃避そのもの。理想から現実に逃げるというよりは現実から目を背けて問題を後回しにするようなものだ。

『わたおし。』は「Revolution」というゲームの世界を舞台にレイとクレアがいくつもの困難に立ち向かう様子を描いた作品。ゲームのシナリオをただなぞるだけの日々はどれだけ楽なことだろうか。

レイだけでなく、クレア達も現実と理想について悩み、葛藤していく。いくつもの困難と葛藤が合わさることで「Revolution」の世界に厚みが増す。

現実と理想のためにレイはクレア達の力を借りる。「Revolution」に関するずば抜けた知識量と類稀なる魔法の才能があったとしても、乗り越えられないものがある。だからこそ、レイは誰かの協力が必要なのだと思う。

欠けた部分を自覚し、補っていく姿が描かれているからこそ、レイは完璧超人ではないと表現した。

ただ補うだけでなく、現実に悩まされ続ける人に寄り添い、最大限サポートする姿もレイの魅力なのだ。

戦闘時に作戦計画を立てて戦術指揮を行ったのをはじめ、辛い運命が待ち受けているクレアに対してアドバイスを送るところ・レーネにとっておきのプレゼントを贈る場面とレイが目の前の人をサポートする機会が本当に多い。

レイのアクションに呼応して、クレア達がレイと協力する。レイの欠けた部分を埋めるかのように。レイであろうとも適性のないものはどうやっても上手くいくわけがない。レイのできない部分を魔法という形で表現した気がする。

tsuke先生が漫画を担当している『私の推しは悪役令嬢。メイドキッチン』においても、レイは目の前で困っているレーネに優しく寄り添い、困難を乗り越えるための解決策を導き出していた。

苦しさや困難、理不尽さを人一倍味わっているレイだからこそ、目の前の人に優しくなれるのだろう。時には、非常になる時もありますが。そんな人間味溢れるレイのことが私は好きだ。

場面によっては、レイがWINWINの関係性で接している姿も描かれていたりする。こういった部分も困難に立ち向かうための下準備。ただ単に優しいというわけではないのだ。

ちなみにアニメ版で登場するかどうかは正直微妙だが、マナリアがレイとの勝負に勝ったら、クレアだけでなくレイを自分のものにすると宣言するシーンが存在する。

レイがマナリアとの勝負に敗れ、クレアとレイがマナリアの庇護の下で過ごし続けることで何にも苦しむこと無く幸せに生き続けることができるのだろうか。

多分、それはない。

細かな内容については触れないが、マナリアの庇護の下で生きるとしても別の困難が待ち受けているのであろう。どこの世界にいたとしても、困難から逃れることはできない。

理想が実現しないどころか新たな困難が待ち受けていることが分かっているからこそ、レイはマナリアという困難に抗ったのだと解釈している。

マナリアの庇護の下で生きるというのはレイの敗北。仮にレイがクレアと一緒にマナリアの下で生きたいと言ったら、今までの苦労は何だったんだと言いたくなる。自発的にマナリアの下で生きるというのはその場しのぎの逃げに過ぎない。

最後は現実と理想に向き合い、困難と闘い続けるレイは誇り高い。クレアのために戦う愛のソルジャーといったところだろうか。

Twitter上でのいのり。先生の投稿を踏まえると、大橋零はいのり。先生の考え方が色濃く反映された人間だなと感じなくもない。

現実と理想と困難に向き合うということ

現実とファンタジーが入り乱れた「Revolution」の世界。

魔法や未知の生物といったファンタジーの要素があるものの、現実世界を感じさせる描写が多々見受けられる。「Revolution」の世界で死んだら、現実世界に戻れないことを意味するのだろう。

異世界転生を題材にした物語は現実逃避が云々みたいな話を目にすることがあるけど、「本当なのか」という疑問が湧いてくる。

『わたおし。』以外の物語を見ても、「現実逃避を表してるか？これ。」と言いたくなってしまう。

どのような異世界に転生したとしても、残酷な現実や理不尽が待っている気がする。異なる文化・宗教・価値観・言語・法律など、挙げ出したら枚挙に暇がない。

運良く活躍できたら良いのかもしれないけど、未知の脅威や異なる価値観などを前に病んでしまうんじゃないかと感じることが多い。転生した人間の思い通りに物事が全部進むみたいな物語の方が逆に少ない気がする。

どんな異世界においても、人間は現実と困難から逃れることはできないと思う。とあるドキュメンタリー番組において、海外の方がどこの世界で生きていくのも大変だという言葉を思い出すな。

正直、自分にとっては他府県すら異世界だと感じることがある。いろいろな地域を題材にしたTV番組を見る度、未知のものが飛び出してくるなという考えが何度も頭によぎる。

海外も自分にとって未知の世界という感覚が強い。自分の知らないものを未知と感じる方は一定数いるような気がした。

異世界を目にした際、夢のようだと感じるよりも先に怖いという気持ちが先行してしまうんですよね。

理想を実現させる難易度は現実世界においても異世界においても変わらないだろう。

実際、どのような問題が現実に取り巻いているかを見極め、その上で理想を実現もしくは理想に近づけるための方法や道筋を探していくことが現実や困難に立ち向かうことなのだと捉えている。

現実や山のように解決しないといけないことについて考えず、理想だけ語るのは誰でもできることだろう。問題は理想を実現させるためには一体何をしないといけないのか。

レイはクレアが幸せになるために現実を見つつ、さまざまな問題に目を配っている。レイの思い通りにいかないのは本編を見れば明らかだ。

理想にもすぐにでも実現できる理想・条件が整えば実現できる理想・到底不可能な理想といった具合にいくつものタイプに分かれるのだろう。

現実問題として実現不可能な理想それも実現する具体的な方法を明記していないものを見ると、苛立ちを覚えることがある。発言者の言い方なども影響している部分が大きい。

レイが実現しようとしてるのは条件が整えば実現できる理想なのだろう。それも実現できる保証が100％あるわけでない理想。だからこそ、レイは四苦八苦するわけで。

レイだけでなく、クレアも理想を実現させるために現実に目を向けて問題や解決策を模索している。レイとクレアの行動を踏まえると、現実と理想は切り離すことができないのが分かる。

物事全てが鶴の一声で解決したら、誰も苦労しない。

クレアの目指す道が困難だからこそ、レイはクレアに覚悟を問い、その上で優しく接することができるのだろう。

レイの「諦めないでください」という一言に全てが集約されているような気がした。「現実に屈し、理想を失わないで」と言っているようにも。

「Revolution」の世界は想像以上に優しいけど、想像以上に厳しい。現実世界と大差ないどころか現実世界以上に大変だなと感じる部分も多いぞ。

現実から逃避するのは完全な悪とは言わないけど、一時しのぎで根本的な問題が解決しないことが多いからネガな感じが飛び交うんだろうな。人によっては目の前の現実から逃避し、理想を実現させるために他のアプローチを見つけたり、新たな道を見つけるのもありだと考えている。

逃避して良いかどうかはその人の事情による。

理想に目を背け、現実に逃避したキャラクターと聞くと、『FFT』のウィーグラフというキャラクターが頭に浮かぶ。高い理想を掲げていたものの、最終的には力と権力に溺れてしまった。

現実逃避した先に待ってる異世界といったら、『妄想代理人』に登場した昭和時代の日本を感じさせる世界とかだろう。あれはあれで何とも言えない不気味さがあったな。

耳障りの良い言葉と虚飾で彩られた世界が現実逃避し続けた先に待っている世界だと捉えている。少なくとも、「Revolution」の世界は逃避した先に待っている世界とは違う。

理想・目標・夢は現実を生きる際の原動力。人が決して失ってはいけないものなんだろうな。理想と目標を見つけたクレアは危なっかしい面もあるけど、どこか力強さも感じる。

豊富なリアクション

前述では、すごく固い話をしてしまった。

レイの魅力といえば、豊富なリアクションも頭に浮かぶ。

予想外の場所からレイが登場し、クレアを驚かせるとか。

レイのリアクションは見ていて飽きない。

レイの魅力を引き出すためにいくつもの技が散りばめられているのかなと思った。

時にコミカルに。時に優しく。時に勢いを感じさせる。

レイがクレアに勢い良く迫ると思ったら、隣で優しくサポートと八面六臂の活躍をする。

レイのリアクションが豊富なのはアニメのPVを見ればわかると思う。

作中におけるレイのリアクションは見ていて楽しい。これはいのり。先生・花ヶ田先生・青乃下先生・tsuke先生の力量による部分も大きいと思う。

tsuke先生はスピンオフ漫画の担当ですが、『わたおし。』というコンテンツを盛り上げるチームの一員だと捉えている。

多くのクリエイターの方と考え方や価値観が異なるかもしれないが、作品に何かしらの形で携わるということはチームの一員になることを意味しているのではないかと考えていたりする。

『わたしが恋人になれるわけないじゃん、ムリムリ！ （※ムリじゃなかった！？）』の場合、みかみてれん先生・竹嶋えく先生・むっしゅ先生のチームが携わっている物語という認識だ。

tsuke先生もキャラクターの見せ方が上手いなと思ったりする。セリフのフォントや集中線、背景などを効果的に用いてキャラクターの表情を引き立てている。

『甘えさて雛森さん！』を見ていて、そう思う。

アニメでレイがいろいろな表情を見せると考えたら、『わたおし。』のアニメに対する期待も高まる。

レイがクレアに追い詰められている時の表情も見ていて楽しい。その時のクレアの表情も面白いわけだが。

レイのシリアスな表情も戦闘時の凛々しい表情も全てレイの魅力だ。

レイに命を宿すために

声を宿すということは命を宿すということ。

レイの声はi☆Risのメンバーでもある芹澤 優氏が担当している。出演者の発表を見て、テンションが上がった方もいたのではないだろうか？

レイについて考えていく中で芹澤 優氏はレイの声に適任だと感じた。そう感じた理由はこれだ。

i☆Risのインタビューが掲載されている『My Girl』vol.20。読んだことがある方も多いかもしれない。

芹澤 優氏はインタビュー内で「自分を信じることが最強」「逃げない強さを持ち続ける」ということについて触れていた。

逃げない強さを持ち続けるという面はレイに通ずるものがあるような気がした。レイは立ちはだかる強敵に屈することがあったものの、最終的には強敵に再び立ち向かい、勝利を勝ち取っている。

自分自身と向き合い、困難から逃げない強さを本当の意味で手にしたんだなと『わたおし。』を読んで感じた。

芹澤 優氏の姿勢は劇中におけるレイの活躍によく似ている。インタビュー内での内容だけなので、分かっていないと感じる方も多いかもしれないですが。

芹澤 優氏の頑張っている人を見ることでやる気を湧き上がらせる部分もレイと通ずる部分だろう。

レイもまた、国を変えるために奮闘するクレアに手を指し伸ばしている。クレアが頑張っている姿を見ると、レイはクレアのためにできる限りのことを尽くしたいと感じるのかな。

本当にスタッフの方々は凄く良いキャスティングを行っている。芹澤 優氏の声質はもちろん、仕事に対する姿勢があったからこそ、レイ＝テイラーという役に結びついたのかなと思わなくもない。

他を圧倒するマシンガントークや芯のある声、クレアに対する情熱的なアプローチ、クレアの愛が不足してテンション低めの声。どれを取っても間違いないキャストだと実感する。

仕事疲れで寝落ちする寸前の声も上手く演じていて、凄いなと思うばかり。声優という仕事は漫画やアニメのキャラクターの魅力を数段引き上げるために欠かせない仕事だと捉えている。

芹澤 優氏の他の出演作を見ても、芹澤 優氏の凄さを垣間見た。元気と勢いを感じさせる声からドヤァって感じの声まで表現していた。声優の演技ひとつでキャラクターの印象が大きく変わる。

PVやTwitter上で公開された「クレア様との日常ひとコマ」を見る限り、芹澤 優氏はレイをしっかり演じているのではないだろうか。

ちなみに「クレア様との日常ひとコマ」で一番お気に入りなのは柱からスッとレイが出てくる回。

芹澤 優氏の声を思い出しつつ、『わたおし。』を一から楽しむのも悪くない。

声優がきっかけで『わたおし。』の原作やコミカライズ版を読み始めた方がどのくらいいるのか気になるところだ。漫画やアニメ、ゲームに触れるきっかけは人それぞれ。声優も漫画やアニメ、ゲームに触れるきっかけのひとつに挙げられる。

『わたおし。』に限った話ではないけど、声優はとてつもない責任が伴う職業だなと。「当たり前だろ」と言う方が多いかもしれませんが。

最後に

レイに魅力をまとめると以下の3つが頭に浮かぶ。

類稀なる戦闘スキルや料理上手な一面など、光る部分はたくさんある。人によって、魅力だと感じる部分は異なると思う。

困難な出来事や理不尽な現実と向き合い、理想のために最善を尽くすレイはカッコいい。そして、クレアに寄り添い、支えていく姿は本当に優しい。

恵まれた才能や知識を活かしつつ、他の人達の長所を理解した上で最適解を導く。レイがクレア達と連携し、1つ1つの壁を乗り越えていくところは『わたおし。』における見どころだと解釈している。

才能に溢れたレイがクレア達と協力する様子を描くことにより、1人では困難に乗り越えられないことがあるというのを表現しているのかなと思わなくもない。どれだけ力や知識があろうとも、レイはクレアを仲間を必要とする。

『わたおし。』では、レイの強さだけでなく、弱さについても触れられている。レイは「Revolution」の世界で残酷な現実や立ちはだかる強敵と戦い続けているというのを実感するばかりだ。

理想のためにできる限りの最善を尽くしたとしても、全てが理想通りとはいかない部分を描いているのもリアルだなと感じてしまう。

レイ＝テイラーこと大橋零という人間について少しでも興味を持って頂けると嬉しい。

『わたおし。』をずっと読み続けている方の中には、まだまだ語り足りないと感じている方もいるかもしれませんが。
