The train that ran through the long summer has arrived at its final station.
Considering the announcement of the results of Manga We Want To See Animated Ranking 2024 and the development of overseas versions, the train will continue to run, but I think the train called Shizuku and Kaori's Story has reached its final station.
My encounter with Yuama-sensei happened on social media the day before the final day of YURITEN2019 in Osaka. It was around the time when manga artists who were serializing in Yuri Hime were confessing that they were in danger of being discontinued, and when I saw Yuama-sensei's post, I saw a message on my smartphone saying, "Huh? You too?" I almost screamed at her.
It has been several years since that encounter, and I feel like I have seen more and more of Yuama-sensei's activities. So, I decided to introduce my impressions of Volume 6 of "The Summer You Were There".
【Key points of Volume 6】
- Shizuku's completed novel
- Shizuku continues to live with Kaori
- What Natsuori created
So please enjoy until the end!
Thoughts on Volume 6 of "The Summer You Were There"
The relationship between Shizuku and Kaori is just beautiful...
I don't know what words are best, but no one can come between Shizuku and Kaori. The booklet I read after finishing the last three turbulent episodes is so heartwarming...
If you ask me what the appeal of "The Summer You Were There" is, I would say that it is the way Kaori works hard to save the people she cares about and creates a place for Shizuku and the others.
Of course, the sight of Shizuku and Natsuori's yuri and Shizuku taking a new step after being rescued by Natsuori is also fascinating. However, no matter how I think about it, I end up with the answer that Kaori was at the center of this story.
I wonder what would have happened if Kaori hadn't been there. Shizuku might have committed suicide after erasing everything. When Ruri, who continues to suffer from trauma, hears the news of Shizuku's suicide, she may feel intense regret that she was the one who killed her. How will Seri react when she sees Ruri suffering from Shizuku's suicide? Shiori might have been truly alone.
None of this happened in the main story. But it's true that Shizuku and the others don't know what would have happened if Kaori hadn't been there.
Considering this, Kaori's legacy is huge. It was more difficult than I imagined to create a connection between four people who would never have met in the first place. Perhaps Seri was the only one who understood the enormity of what Kaori was trying to do. Looking at the interaction between Natsuori and Seri in Yokohama, it seemed like Seri was no match for Kaori. And Seri is well aware that Shizuku is the only one who can be the closest to Kaori. That's why Seri harshly scolded Shizuku in the final episode.
In the manga on the back of the cover, Shiori was bullying the axolotl stuffed toy that Shizuku had given her, probably because she realized that Kaori's heart was full of Shizuku. It's no wonder Shiori gets eight hits. I thought it was DO-shite, so I wet the pillow a little.
In fact, it is unlikely that the person doing the bullying and the person being bullied will understand each other. A strained relationship remains strained. Considering that, when I looked at Shizuku and the others, I felt that this world was not something I had thrown away.
What I felt throughout the story was that the events depicted in "The Summer You Were There" could have happened to anyone. Everyone can be a victim or a perpetrator. Everyone has sinned and everyone is seeking salvation. What exactly is sin and forgiveness? Even if I make a mistake, I realize that there is someone who can help me.
An example of this is "If that's love, break it.", which depicts people's suppressed and selfish emotions. The people who imposed selfish expectations on Kurumi were tormenting and cornering Kurumi. However, the person who freed Kurumi and saved her was none other than Naoi. Although the vector is different from "The Summer You Were There", they have in common that they depict events that could happen to anyone.
If there is a difference, is it in the method of salvation? Kaori not only gave Shizuku an opportunity to face her past, but also served as a guidepost for Shizuku's subsequent life. As Shizuku's fan and lover, Kaori succeeded in rescuing Shizuku from being trapped in the past.
Shizuku and Kaori's relationship is not just that of lovers or classmates. It's also a relationship between creators and fans. Nowadays, it is not uncommon for creators and fans to meet face-to-face in real life, as well as on YouTube. I think there are many fans who come to watch Yuama-sensei's broadcasts.
Not only did Shizuku continue to regret her mistakes at school, but she also continued to suffer from slander on a web novel site. Nowadays, various words are exchanged on web novel sites and SNS, and slander often leads to major incidents. Because of Shizuku's novel, Shizuku is subjected to slander and slander from many people. I wonder if the people who destroyed the content are living peacefully...
After running a blog for many years, I can kind of understand how Shizuku felt when she was subjected to slander and slander on the internet. In fact, I myself have received harsh comments, although the reasons were different. For Shizuku, who lost her place in the real world and sought a place in the internet world, I think the pain of having her place taken away was immeasurable. I don't fully understand Shizuku's pain, but it's certainly not light. I want to treat all manga artists, not just Yuama-sensei, with moderation.
One of the attractions is that it depicts that the existence of fans is bigger than creators can imagine. Seeing fans having fun and being happy is probably a factor that increases creators' motivation. When you think about it that way, you can clearly see that Kaori's existence means a lot to Shizuku.
Throughout this long, long summer, Kaori was able to become not only Shizuku's number one fan, but also Shizuku's lover. I think you can tell from the contents of the booklet that Kaori continues to live in Shizuku's heart.
Thoughts on "THE ETERNITY FOR YOU"
The promise that couldn't be made in the main story is finally here...
It makes me cry that Shizuku not only remembered Kaori's promise, but also fulfilled it...
When I read "THE ETERNITY FOR YOU", I felt that "The Summer You Were There" is a pure love manga between Shizuku and Kaori. And how amazing is Kaori.
I imagined that Shizuku and the others would continue to gather together and reminisce about the days they spent with Kaori.
You can also learn about Yuama-sensei's thinking in the afterword. I agree with Yuama-sensei's way of thinking.
Shizuku's only lover is Kaori. I can't think of anything else. If Shizuku's new lover had appeared, I think everything that had been built up until then would have been ruined. I'm sorry for those who are hoping for a sweet happy ending, but Shizuku's left ring finger is fully booked.
2 leaflets
If you purchase from Melonbooks or Animate, you will receive a leaflet.
Shizuku and Kaori, dressed in pure white clothes, are tied together. The two look happy. I wonder if the flowers depicted around it are a bouquet of blessings.
The leaflet that came with Melonbooks depicts how Shizuku has changed through her encounter with Kaori. Shion also seems to be happy with Shizuku's change.
The leaflet that came with Animate included the story behind the cover of volume 6 of "The Summer You Were There".
The covers of Volume 6 of "The Summer You Were There" and "THE ETERNITY FOR YOU" form a pair.
When I looked at the cover, I just felt it was beautiful. The entire story of "The Summer You Were There" had detailed and delicate drawings.
What was created by "The Summer You Were There"
"The Summer You Were There" has created a variety of things. In addition to attractive characters, there are many fans.
In Yuama-sensei's broadcasts, we see die-hard fans.
And I consider Sakutaro-Sensei's "Pale Blue-green Color Saudade", which continued to support "The Summer You Were There", to be one of them. Yuama-sensei introduced "Pale Blue-green Color Saudade" on X, so some of you may have read it.
"Pale Blue-green Color Saudade" is a yuri manga depicting the lives of two women who are making a comeback as manga artists. The story begins when Ren, who was searching for a place to belong, and her former classmate Matsuri meet again by chance. What kind of manga will Ren and Matsuri create?
Sakutaro-sensei's drawings are as detailed as Yuama-sensei's. Just like "The Summer You Were There", you can enjoy the delicate psychological depiction. However, the nature of the two manga is completely different. While "The Summer You Were There" is a yuri manga about a girl who made a mistake and faces her past, and a kind girl who connects the people she cares about, "Pale Blue-green Color Saudade" is about two women. A yuri manga depicting a man who relives her youth as a student and pours his passion into manga.
For those who came to know about Sakutaro-sensei through "The Summer You Were There" and Yuama-sensei, I would like you to feel the difference between "The Summer You Were There" and "Pale Blue-green Color Saudade".
Lastly
"The Summer You Were There" has been running for about four years.
My heartfelt gratitude to Shizuku and the others who gave us a summer we will never forget.
thank you. And hope you're well. While thinking about what words to give to Kaori and Shizuku, I came up with this.
I think it was a yuri manga that had no clutter and wasted no time. The booklet was also focused on the relationship between Shizuku and the others and Shizuku's continued feelings for Kaori, and there was no gap here either.
I was impressed by how well the story of Shizuku and Kaori's pure love was intertwined while delving into what it means to face one's sins and the past and what it means to forgive. You can realize how happy it is to live tomorrow with your loved ones. Kaori's desire to live is depicted realistically, and when Shizuku sees it, she is also full of humanity.
When I finished reading it, I just felt a strange feeling after reading it. If you are interested in "The Summer You Were There", I would like you to run through Shizuku and Kaori's story until the end.
If you think about it, even though you often meet other people in real life or on the internet, it is much rarer than you might imagine to understand each other. Sometimes it feels like the worst. When I look at Shizuku and Kaori, I feel that this world is not something I have thrown away, and at the same time I feel a strong desire to live for tomorrow. I myself am such a weak person that I need someone to help me.
As I said when commenting on the final episode, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Yuama-sensei.
When Yuama-sensei's new work on Yurihime is announced, I will give these words to Yuama-sensei.
"Okaeri"
Until that day comes, goodbye everyone.
